47 FL...Gimme a Brake...

The brake pedal was to the floor board on the 47 FL...
Time to pull the wheel and see what's up with the brakes

Takin' the whole thing off in one chunk...rather than pull the wheel lugs etc. Just drop the chain, pull the axle remove the sleeve nut and spacer and wiggle it out with the drum and backing plate attached to the wheel...

The unveiling

Worn down to the rivets...

Out with the old...

In with the new...
Trying these babies out...had them laying around...I know I've attempted to use these in the past but for some reason could not get them to fit right...they did this time...

Meat!

Back together and ready for re-install...

Centering the brake shoes...
Get everything back together and with the rear wheel off the ground spin it to check if the drum rubs the shoes...I usually do the following, even if it doesn't rub, just to make sure they are centered...Loosen the pivot stud nut (not too much, just enough to let it move). spin the wheel and hit the brake a few times. to let the shoes find center. on the last one hold the brake on and tighten the pivot nut...the shoes should be centered and the wheel should spin without rubbing...adjust the brake rod and you should be good... obviously just make sure the wheel spins free when you're done.

Plenty of brake and a great night for a ride...
